Old computer & DVD burner problem
Since it appears that an aftermarket burner is better than the burner Dell provides, my question is this. In Dell's configurations, you can't get the DVD burner as the primary drive and a CD burner as a secondary drive. Dell forces you to take a 16x DVD-ROM drive or a CD-R burner as the primary with the DVD burner

A lot of other brands (eg Sony) are re-badged Lite-On burners anyway. Why would you tweak/hack a DVD burner? What can you make it do that it doesn't already do? You can make it do things for which it wasn't designed - then bitch in ng's about what a lousy product it is. Dave Cohen.

Dump the CD burner and keep the DVD ROM as the DVD ROM reads DVDs and CDs and the DVD burner burns DVDs and CDs. What use is a CD burner? This is what I have done.
